Unveil the mysteries of the Amazon Region in Ecuador

A stop at the Amazon in Ecuador is a once in a lifetime experience. In this region, travelers can relax and enjoy being surrounded by nature and its beauty. The experience will be more impactful if you learn some interesting facts of the Amazon Region. If you’re ready to know more, you’ve come to the right place. On this blog, we’ll tell you everything you need to know.

The Amazon, and adventurer’s dream

Ecuador’s Amazon region is an adventurer’s dream. There are plenty of different activities that will allow you to explore this stunning ecosystem and learn more about its inhabitants. You can go on guided hikes through remote parts of the forest or go kayaking down rivers with colorful fish swimming around. There are also tours available where you’ll learn about how locals live off the land while respecting its natural resources and see wildlife like tapirs and jaguars in their natural habitats.

The region contains more biodiversity per square kilometer than any other place on earth. Its rainforest is home to some of the most unique species in the world. In fact, the Amazon region is so vast and varied that it can feel like a different ecosystem every time you visit it. The Amazon rainforest is home to:

  • More than 2500 different species of birds
  • Over 3000 different species of trees alone
  • Over 1000 different kinds of butterflies
  • More than 300 species of mammals

11 Indigenous nationalities:

Kichwa, Shuar, Achuar, Waorani, Sapara Andwa, Shiwiar, Cofan, Siona, Siekopai and Kijus call the Amazon region their home. They are the guardians of all the beauty and they are the ones taking the lead in making sure this important area is promoted in a sustainable way. Each nationality has its own customs and rituals that involve the unique and interesting plant species found in the region. One such plant is the ayahuasca, which has been used by indigenous tribes as medicine and spiritual guide for centuries.

Shamans use the ayahuasca plant to lead people on spiritual journeys. It is claimed that during the ritual shamans can see into people’s souls, making them able to heal their bodies. Ayahuasca has become very popular among tourists visiting the region and wanting to experience something new.

As you can see, Ecuador’s Amazon region is a place of extreme biodiversity and stunning beauty with unique animals and plants that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. The region has over 6 million hectares of protected areas, including parks and reserves such as Yasuni National Park, Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, Sangay National Park, and many more. Perhaps that’s why Ecuador’s Amazon offers some of the best opportunities for ecotourism in South America.

Ecotourism involves the local communities in the Amazon region allowing them to share their culture and values with visitors. This benefits the communities, the tourism sector and the travelers as they are able to venture deep into the rainforest with luxurious accommodation facilities.

There are many establishments in this region that are redefining what luxury travel means. They offer experiential adventures that allow visitors to fully experience life in the place they are visiting. In doing so, travelers can:

  • Connect with the local culture
  • Live experiences that go beyond a vacation
