How to get to the Galapagos?
The Galapagos Islands are located on the equator, 576 miles from the Ecuadorian coast.
The only way to get there is by plane. Galapagos airports are located in Baltra Island (which is connected to the touristic city of Puerto Ayora through the Itabaca Channel) and in San Cristobal Island, the Galapagos province capital. From both of these cities, the only way to explore the rest of the islands is by sea.
There are several tour options to explore the enchanted islands from a single day visit, sailing among turquoise waters, and visiting pristine beaches, to several days island-hopping aboard an all-inclusive cruise that will take you to places only a few human beings have set their feet on.
Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands are probably the most exotic and biodiverse destinations in the Pacific Ocean. They are locally known as “the “enchanted islands, a nickname not only derived from their breathtaking beauty but also related to an old sailors’ legend claiming that they appear and disappear in plain sight. If you are visiting the amazing Galapagos Islands, be sure to take note of these recommendations and prepare to enjoy an unforgettable adventure!
Get prepared for your Galapagos adventure
Almost everything that is consumed in the Galapagos comes from the continent, so whatever your daily budget in mainland Ecuador was, you should expect it to double while on the islands. ATMs are only available in Puerto Ayora and San Cristobal, so it is a better idea to take enough cash with you for the days you will spend there.
Another thing to have in mind is that Galapagos weather can be very hot and sunny, so you will need to use sun cream and wear a hat many times during the day. Remember to bring enough of everything that can save you from a paralyzing sunburn.
